Bible translation

For the Church in Iran to be properly equipped to grow in strength and depth, there is an urgent need for a modern standard version of the Bible in Persian, that will speak to people’s hearts and that they can understand and study and respond to. The present standard Bible is over 100 years old and is very difficult for modern Iranians to understand. With 60% of Iran’s 70 million population under the age of 21, the need for a modern translation becomes even more evident.

The Michaelian project

To meet the need for a new standard Persian Bible, Elam Ministries, in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators, began the ‘Michaelian Project’ at the end of 1995. The project was named after Tateos Michaelian, a prominent Iranian Church leader who was martyred in 1994. Michaelian had been Iran’s foremost Christian translator, translating 60 Christian books into Persian. He had agreed to play a leading role in the translation project before he was tragically killed. Three key objectives have been set for the translation; Accuracy, Clarity and Elegance.

A key milestone was reached in July 2003 when the New Testament was published and launched at an historical dedication service for the Iranian church.

The next step for this project is to finish the Old Testament so that the whole Bible will be available in a modern standard translation.

Training leaders

Rapid church growth means there is also a growing need to develop more leaders who can help strengthen and expand the church. In Iran there is a great need to develop more indigenous leaders who have a sound understanding of the Bible and theology and who at the same time are able to serve effectively in outreach and discipleship.

The training of existing and emerging Iranian church leaders is at the heart of Elam’s strategy. Since 1990, Elam has developed various programs for leadership development to help train people at various target levels. Our goal is to train healthy Iranian church leaders and workers who will effectively serve the growing Iranian church; train others to be healthy leaders; and stand the test of time.

All of our training programs are based on the five C’s model of leadership development, which maintains thatthere are five elements that must be strong in a leader’s life for them to be ‘healthy’ and effective: Christ, Community, Character, Calling and Competencies.

Currently Elam provides the following training programs:

- Three-month intensive leadership program

- Three year training by extension program

- Conferences and seminars

Tv and internet ministry

We also work to send the Gospel to Iran through the media, primarily through TV and the Internet.

Kalameh Tv (meaning, The Word TV) is Elam’s main evangelistic TV program. It has been broadcast weekly into Iran since 2007 and is recognized as one of the highest quality Christian programs in Persian. Dealing with tough, real life issues, Kalameh TV is aimed at the broken hearted.

Kalameh is Elam's Persian Christian Website. The purpose of the site is to introduce Iranians to Jesus Christ and to help them grow as disciples. Thousands visit the site each month that is updated every week.
